Why choose a surgeon who has a fellowship in Advanced Minimally Invasive Surgery?
… and why choose a surgeon who has completed more than 500 Robotic Surgery operations?
After completing a 5 year residency in general surgery, surgeons who have obtained a fellowship in advanced minimally invasive surgery undergo one year of additional training in minimally invasive techniques and learn to perform complex abdominal surgeries using the advanced technology available. There are numerous studies to show that complication rates drastically decrease and good outcomes increase when treated by a fellowship trained Minimally Invasive Surgeon.
After obtaining his fellowship, Dr. Uthaiah Kokkalera, in 2009, received his training to be a Robotic Surgeon in Sunnyvale, California at the da Vinci robotic training facility.
Single site technology was introduced by intuitive surgical in 2013. In the same year, he received training in the use of the Single Site Technology at the same facility.
Dr. Kokkalera is currently the Medical Director of the Advanced Minimally Invasive and Robotic Surgery and is actively involved in the Minimally Invasive and Robotic Surgery at Northridge Hospital.
He is a certified proctor for surgeons who wish to start their career in robotic surgery and has proctored many surgeons for their first few operations.
To date, Dr. Kokkalera has successfully completed more than 500 robotic surgery cases.
